One-page Sketch #11

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the one-page sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"Words to Live By" by Mireille Divjak
Supply list - Cardstock: Bo Bunny (Double dot, coffee stripe); Patterned Paper: Simple Stories (Life Documented Collection - For the Record, Life is good) Alphas: Adorn it - Carolee's Creations; Flowers: Petaloo (Darjeeling Collection, Chantilly Collection Velvet Hydrangeas); Butterfly: Petaloo Memo Pins: Tim Holtz

Just having some fun together. I so loved this moment, trying to teach her laughter is healthy so she should at least try and get a healthy dose on a daily base. Wished I could prescribe it...that...and one table spoon of love daily.

"Funny Face" by Lynette Jacobs
Supplies used - Cardstock: Bazzill; Printed papers: My Minds Eye (Stella and Rose Hazel); Words: American Craft (Rainboots) and Making Memories (Tiny Alphas); Flourish: Prima; Stickers and brads: My Minds Eye.

I love using larger photos. For me scrapping is all about the photo.  I cut my background pieces 3.5 x 9 and placed them 1.5 inches from the bottom.

It is a girly page so I replaced the stars with a flourish and some girly stickers and brads. The sizes of my photos are 6x4 and two of 3x3.

"Ride of Your Life" by Janette Kincaid
Supplies - Patterned Paper: Making Memories (Paperie), Scenic Route (Grafton); Rub-ons: Bo Bunny (Alora); Cardstock: Bazzill; Alphas: Tim Holtz (Harlequin Grunge), Making Memories (Fa La La); American Crafts (Felt); Adhesive: Helmar Scrapdots and 450 Quick Dry Journal Pen/Marker, Zig Black; Circle Punches: Marvy; Other: Floss, printer transparency, unknown

To stretch the one-page sketch over two pages I repeated the three vertical strips across the layout.

I kept the clusters of embellishments in the same general areas as the sketch but changed them to circles rather than stars.

My journaling strips fit better at the top right rather than overlapping the two pages.

At the last minute I added the fine pen detail lines around the layout. I’m still not sure if I like it. I was thinking I could go back and add more stitching to cover it up but I think, if I had the opportunity, I would remove the border altogether and just add some dark brown paint at the edges.

I went back and added stitching to my layout after Stitching Week was featured a few weeks ago. I loved how the other DT members added the stitching detail around the decorative elements like chipboard shapes and stars.

I used my circle cutter ‘ring’ as a template to mark the outline of the circle, then used a piercing tool to poke the holes at equal intervals. I used all 6 threads of the floss with a large eye needle to sew through the paper. I love the results. It took the layout up a notch with the added detail.

I added the rub-on’s to a sheet of clear computer transparency and then cut them out by hand. I like that I was able to play with the circle placement before committing to the location. Using the transparency also allowed me to raise the rub-on’s to add dimension.

It’s hard to tell from the photos but I’ve used Helmar’s Scrapdots to raise the accent circles – just like there were foam squares or pop dots under them. I love that you can control the amount or ‘height’ by how much adhesive you add, plus there’s no sticky backing to remove either.

"The 18 Hour Drive" by Allison Davis
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: We R Memory Keepers; Stickers: We R Memory Keepers; Number stickers: unknown; Alphabets: American Crafts

At first glance I didn't really think the one-page sketch would translate into a two-page layout very well but, I always love a good challenge. (And I have to say, I love the way Janette transformed it into a two-page design too!)

Variation #1 - I completely removed the photo design on the sketch and instead worked my photos into the paper design. Since I was continuing the three background pieces from the sketch onto my second page, I had plenty of room for both the papers and the pictures.

All of the pictures are grouped into the same size of background pieces of the paper on the sketch. I used a combination of smaller photos on two of the groups but this page would also be great for three vertical 4 x 6 photos.

Variation #2 - I added a few small strips to the larger patterned paper pieces.

Variation #3 - Because I removed the photo design I had to rethink where my title and journaling would go. I shifted the papers and photos down a little and placed my title above everything and the journaling fit perfectly on the right page on the two patterned paper pieces.

Variation #4

I also added 18 number stickers in different places along the lines to go with the 18 hour drive topic of the page. The stitched lines were actually inspired by a piece of patterned paper in the collection I used. It had similar lines all over it and I thought it would be a fun element to add to the page to help support the driving theme.

Fantastic layouts again today ladies. It's nice to see a 2 pager on this idea too which are also great. I can't wait to start on this sketch, no scrapping for me till the kids go back to school and I clean my scrap table off.

Allison, love seeing your pictures from the long drive. Great idea adding the numbers into it also.

Great layouts everyone! I love how the sketch was made into a two page layout as well. And what a great idea to scrapbook the car trip itself. Love all the stitched arrows and number stickers around the border.
