It is time again for our Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker Product Challenge!

In case you missed the product challenge details, Nikki Sivils provided a collection kit to each member of our Creative Team. Each had the choice between the four newest collections - Noah, Audrey, Exit Here, and Messages. Together with the May sketches we will show you how using the same products and even the same sketches can produce so many different results.

They are also featuring our sketches this month on the Nikki Sivils, Scrapbooker blog! You'll definitely want to go check out how their talented team used the sketches from our two newest books!

Since it is One-page Week, all of the projects posted today for the product challenge are based on the May one-page sketch.    

Messages Collection

"PS: I Love You" by Lynette Jacobs

Variation #1: I die-cut the background ledger paper and pasted it onto Bazzill.

Variation #1 - I used horizontal photos instead of vertical; because it took more room, I eliminated the lower banner.

Variation #2 - To add greater dimension to the die cuts, I adhered several with dimensional stickers.

“Fall Color” by Sue Althouse

One of the reasons I chose the Messages collection was the rich colors that remind me of my favorite season, autumn. I knew I would be doing some kind of fall project and here it is!

Variation #1 - Used one 6x4 photo and added layered matting.

Variation #2 - Ran the strips all the way across the page and omitted the sewing.

Variation #3 - Added patterned paper to the bottom of the page.

Variation #4 - Added buttons to the banners.

Variation #5 - Omitted the butterfly embellishments.

Variation #6 - Changed the banner in the upper right corner to a smaller tab.

Audrey Collection

"Spoiled at Nana and Papa's" by Christy Arthur

Variation #1: I added some additional patterned paper behind the photos.

Variation #4: My two photographs are lined up straight across instead of offset like the sketch.

Variation #1 - I used one 4x6 photo, in place of the the two 3x4 photos.

"In Our Book, U are No. 1 DAD Extraordinaire" by Virginia Nebel

Variation #1 - Instead of a 12 x 12 page I created a square card. I used one large element in the middle to mimic a book cover. I used different alphas to create the long message sentiment.

Variation #2 - Substituted button die-cuts and twine for the banners along the bottom.

 Noah Collection

“My Pocket Size Car” by Andrea Friebus 
Supply list – Patterned paper, stickers, die cuts: Nikki Sivils (Noah collection); ink: Clearsnap; brads: Making Memories

Variation #1 - My photos are different sizes than the ones in the sketch—mine are 5.5”x4” and 3.5”x2.5”. I’m not a fan of tilting my photos so I kept them straight and did not mat them.

Variation #2 - I added two more background patterned papers for color, and I liked how they helped create the look of a frame for the layout.

Variation #3 - The red title stickers didn’t show up well against the red background so I included a circle of paper in a contrasting color to place the title on.

Variation #4 - Instead of banner pieces along the bottom, I used the pockets cut from the patterned paper and extended them across the page.

Variation #5 - Rather than using butterflies as embellishments, I used stars and added some brads.

"Loads of Fun" by Janette Kincaid

I don’t have little boys of my own, so when I’m looking to create ‘boy’ pages I look through photos I’ve got of my nephews. These ones of Cameron playing trucks at the park were perfect for the Noah line from Nikki Sivils.

Variation #1 - I replaced the banner trim in the sketch with the pocket banner from the cut out sheet in the collection. I raised this up on foam core to add depth.

Variation #2 – I removed the journal area and replaced it with a truck and car cut from the same sheet as above.

Variation #3 – I relocated the title to the bottom left.

Variation #4 – Rather than adding the second banner at the top of the layout I added an embellishment cluster including a journal box, a die cut ticket and scraps of patterned paper.

Variation #5 – I added a border of stitching and patterned paper to hold my layout together and help ‘ground’ it.

“Maple Grove Days Parade” by Jennifer Larson

Variation #1- I used photos I had on hand rather than printing them specially sized, so I had to adjust the layout of the photos a bit, especially on the right side.

Variation #2- I moved the journaling so that the letter stickers would be more visible.

Variation #3- Rather than hand stitching around an element on the bottom, I hand stitched a star near the title to draw attention to it.

"Table For Six" by Janette Kincaid

Part of me wonders if I should have used a coloured cardstock rather than the white for the background of this layout but when I tried a handful of coordinates, it didn’t feel as ‘right’ as the white. I light how light and airy the layout feels.

Variation #1 - I changed up the sizes and orientation of the photos on the right side page and used a total of four rather than the six the sketch called for.

Variation #2 – I used a torn notebook edge punch on the thin horizontal strips of paper, adding a mirrored strip on the bottom.

Variation #3 – I used the same patterned paper for the background on both pages.

Variation #4 – Rather than taking the time to stitch on my layout, I used a thicker hemp string to add a splash of colour.

Variation #5 – I added more circles and less stars to the bottom of the layout, the varied size of circles adds interest and the buttons, brads and pop dotted paper adds depth.

Variation #6 – I flipped the location of the title and the journaling.

Variation #7 – I added the corrugated arrow for additional detail and interest.

"In Your Face Chewy" by Allison Davis

Variation #1 - The photos I really wanted to use with this sketch didn't allow much room for cropping for the photos on the right page. I didn't want to miss out on using my favorite pictures so I included an extra photo on the left page.

Variation #2 - On the right page I used another 4 x 6" photo in place of two of the 3 x 4" photos.

Variation #3 - I kept two of the 2 x 2" photos the same size but had to opt for a larger 2-1/2 x 2-1/2" photo for one of them. It just wasn't possible to crop it down any smaller.

Variation #4 - I didn't use stars along the bottom. In fact I didn't include anything along the bottom other than a scallop strip. I also included an "ABC" strip along the top.

Variation #5 - I used hearts, flags/banners, a flashcard and a dog sticker in place of the star embellishments on the sketch.

• I only used one 2x2 photo in my layout.

"Fabulous" by Suzanna Lee

Variation 1: Instead of the three smaller pictures I used a 2.5 x 4 picture. I also put a small frame around each picture in order to make them stand out against the background.

Variation 2: I inked each of the horizontal strips for some added depth and delineation of papers. I also added one extra, the black scallops up top. The thin strip of black at the bottom needed some anchoring.

Variation 3: Instead of sewing, I used the Sew Stamper for that same look.

Variation 4: Embellies are placed a little bit differently and not hearts. I rarely use the embellishment as I like the visual variety. I used strips of torn tape and a tag for some more horizontal mobility.

"Marshmallow Cookin" by Janette Kincaid

This layout came together really quickly (minus the blanket stitching – that part took forever!). I made most of the layout with scraps left on my desk from a previous project. I love it when that happens!!

Variation #1 - I limited the number of photos to three and placed them in the same general areas as the sketch.

Variation #2 – I replaced the heart embellishments with stars.

Variation #3 – I used a blanket stitch on the edges of the background strip rather than a straight line of stitching…did I mention the stitching part took forever?!? {wink}

Card Sketch #18

"Roughin It" by Janette Kincaid

This sketch was an easy transition after doing the flags in last week’s sketch. The notched banners are almost the same just on a larger scale (and of course there’s no flag pole!)

Variation #1 – I used the card sketch to create a one-page layout.

Variation #2 – I took inspiration from the vertical strips in the sketch and placed my paneled patterned paper horizontally.

Variation #3 – I replaced the message rectangle with my title and journaling.

Variation #4 – Rather than adding straight lines, my stitching repeats the cardstock and patterned paper circle embellishments.

"Fishing Below the Falls" by Michele Edwards

Spring has sprung, and that means that the trout fishing season will soon be here! We love our visits to Sauble Falls. My husband spends hours fishing, while I watch, both him and the river. I'm always amazed when I see the trout leaping up the falls! I can never get a photo of THAT though, lol!

Variations

1. Instead of a card, I turned the sketch on its side to create a background for my two-page layout.

2. I made the strips wider, and punched a scalloped edge to further the water theme.

3. I stitched a scalloped wave pattern through some of the waves, and continued the stitching into the photographs.

Variation #1 - I stretched the One Page Sketch over two pages to create a double page layout.

Variation #2 – I increased the number of photos from just one on the sketch to six and adjusted the orientation of each.

Variation #3 – I limited the embellishment clusters to three since my paper and photos make the layout busier.

“Hi” by Andrea Friebus

Variation #1- My photo is still 4x6 but is vertical so I added the title directly on top of the photo.

Variation #2 - Since I wanted the subject of the photo looking in, I moved the journaling to the left and the photo and strips of paper to the right.

Variation #3 - I overlapped the background strips and cut some of them with only one point. These background strips were really busy so I matted the photo and journaling on solid patterned paper so they wouldn’t get lost.

Variation #4 - Rather than placing the buttons and flower embellishments in various places, I grouped them all together underneath the photo.

I omitted the stitching and added a canvas sticker and glittery chipboard flourish instead.
