Card Week, Part 1

 ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
As it got closer to the deadline for the cards and all of these beautiful creations started flooding in from the creative team, my excitement starting building for February. This week is packed with fantastic cards based on the sketch that are sure to inspire you. Plus, Sketch Support has teamed up with Jillibean Soup for the month of February and we have presented a fun little challenge for the Sketch Support creative team. This Friday we'll share the challenge, how the creative team took it on, and share how you can take the challenge on too.

Let's get this week started!

Card Sketch #3

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the card sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

Adore card by Jill Sarginson
Supplies - Pattern paper: My Mind's Eye - Be Loved; Kraft Cardstock: Recollections; Die-Cuts: My Mind's Eye - Be Loved; Ink: Versamark; Pen: Zig; Other: pop-dots, twine

I kept to the sketch for this one. I actually had it just on kraft paper but something was missing so I opted to mount it on some of the pattern paper I had left over. I also added the twine as a finishing touch and some hand-drawn stitching.

A Little Note by Melissa Elsner
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper; Patterned Paper: Crate Paper; Flower, bling: Prima Marketing; Butterfly stickers: Jenni Bowlin Studios; Ink: Tim Holtz (Ranger Industries); Pen: Uniball Signo; Stamp: Inkadinkado; Border Punch: Martha Stewart Crafts; Corner Punch: EK Success

Variation #1: I stayed true to the measurements of the patterned paper and square but made the base of my card to be 5 1/2" x 4 1/4".

Variation #2: I used the border punch to help add some interest and texture to the two outside strips of paper.

Variation #3: Instead of hearts, I used the Prima flower and accented it with the Jenni Bowlin butterflies. To make the butterflies dimensional, I rubbed the stickers on my jeans until they were sticky anymore, bent them a little at the wings and then adhered with some Glossy Accents.

"I feel at home when I'm with you" card by Shari Thurman
Supplies - Pattern paper: Jillibean Soup; Alphabets: Cosmo Cricket (tiny types)
and American Crafts; Corner Rounder: We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper; Other:
cardstock, machine stitching, and ribbon

I wanted to make a quilt-like card that had a warm cozy feel to it. I found several different patterns of paper in shades of green and cut them to 1 inch. I attached them to a piece of paper and then zig-zag stitched around them. Instead of using paper strips attached to the card base, I used one of the decorative stitches on my sewing machine and made 3 scalloped lines across the card.

I finished it with ribbon tied in a bow and alphabet letters.

"Thank you" card by Christy Arthur
Product List - Cardstock: Bazzill; Making Memories Slice Remember This Cartridge (Thank you letters); Crate Paper Restoration Collection: Lace, Fringe and Heirloom; Sassafras Vintage Yummy Pleasantly Puzzled; Pen: American Crafts; Stamp: Tim Holtz; Corner Rounder: Creative Memories; Ink: Colorbox

• I chose to eliminate the large solid square and instead made the large yellow (patterned paper) square slightly larger.

• I chose to only round the two top corners of the yellow square instead of using the corner rounder on all four sides.

•  Instead of the heart embellishment, I used pom pom ribbon.

•  I used a stitch stamp instead of machine stitching.

• I drew a border around the outside of the card to frame the card.

Isn't it just amazing how differently one sketch can be interpreted. And they're all so pretty.
