Add-on Week, Part 2

 •••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
Creating this word collage on a computer is what I would consider somewhat easy. Creating it with scrapbooking supplies is another story. I wouldn't say it's super difficult, it just takes some time and patience.

However, there are always ways to simplify things and this word collage is no exception.

The cool part is that simplifying it in no way takes away from the eye-catching look. Today, the two layouts based on the add-on sketch show how you can make this word collage a piece of cake while still keeping the striking look.

We've also got another project to share using the printable, color version of the add-on sketch.

Add-on Sketch #2

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the add-on sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"The Great Outdoors" by Carolyn Wolff
Supply List - All paper and stickers: October Afternoon; Cardstock: Bazzill; Floss: Bazzill; Buttons and brads: misc. stuff from my stash

I absolutely loved the idea of this word collage. I used the tip on the sidebar of the sketch and used stickers to create my collage. In addition to the add-on sketch, I used the February two-page sketch too.

Here are my variations on the sketches:

Variation #1 – I changed the circle to a square on my background. This pattern paper was actually a die-cut paper but I cut off the outside edges and used some of those pieces to create the border under the stripe. I stitched out outer edge of the plaid paper and then matted it with a dark brown paper.

Variation #2 – I used a vertical photo as the main photo instead of a horizontal photo. I also added a couple extra 3x3 photos to page 2. I eliminated the vertical piece of paper on page 2 and used a horizontal piece of cardstock that will act as a photo mat and a base for my collage.

Variation #3 – I created a scene for my title by using the stickers that coordinated with the collection. Even though my photos have nothing to do with fishing, I thought that the two friends (the fox and the bear) sitting on the log was a great representation of my son and his best friend.

Variation #4 – The word collage is something I will definitely be using again on my pages. There are so many ways to incorporate it into layouts and projects. I was having so much fun with the stickers in this collection that I decided to use them to create my collage. I popped them up using foam adhesive and worked in a couple of buttons to fill in the empty spaces.

This layout will be one of my favourites in my album!

"Love" by Christy Arthur
Products - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Sassafras (Bungle Jungle Pal Parade), October Afternoon (Modern Homemaker, Snickerdoodles), The Girls Paperie (Pennants on Holiday), and Crate Paper (Snow Day Mittens); Mini-playing card: Sassafras (Paper Whimsies, Tailored Deck); Flower: Sassafras (Paper Whimsies, Air Mail); Journaling Card: October Afternoon (Farm Fresh Journal Cards); Mists: Tattered Angels (Turquoise) and Mr Huey Mist, Studio Calico (Schoolhouse, Dark Calico, and Applejack); Pen: American Crafts; Embroidery floss: Bazzill; Tools: Slice, Making Memories

I used the word collage for my title on this layout. Instead of all of the love words, I used words to describe the birthday party day: giggle, laugh, fun, family and smile.

I cut the words out with the Slice and then misted them different colors so they would read better. Then I outlined them with a white gel pen and added some dots on the "love" word so it stands out a little more than the others.

"Love" Photo Tray by Allison Davis
Supplies - 4 x 6 Photo Tray: 7Gypsies; Patterned paper: October Afternoon, BasicGrey, My Mind's Eye, and Scenic Route; Jewels: Kaisercraft; Embroidery floss: DMC

We've had a big assortment of these trays from 7Gypsies at our store for awhile and I've been so anxious to use one for a project. At first my plan was to put the 3" x 6" word collage in one section and fill the others with photos. But, of course, those creative wheels in my brain started spinning and I went in a completely different direction.

I added hand stitching to the large heart on the background which I had to do on each individual piece after the heart was cut to fit into each section on the tray.

To add more details, I added a pleated strip of paper with stitching across it, several hearts, and some jewels. The hearts are in a variety of sizes and patterns, some of them are accented with a hand stitched border.

So this one won't be lonely on the wall, I've already got plans to make another one just like this with pictures of Jackson. It was fun to make something a little out of my norm and something that I can display on a wall in our house.
