Card Week, Part 2

A few simple ways to alter a sketch to fit your style or the products you are working with include:

• changing the elements (like the hearts),
• removing pieces on the sketch (using the strips but not the squares or the squares and not the strips),
• transforming the sketch into a playful theme (creating a scene or landscape),
• and substituting different products in place of the paper (like ribbon, felt, canvas, or fabric).

The cards today from Jennifer, Christy, and Suzanna show a few of those easy alterations and how they can create a completely different look.

Card Sketch #3

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the card sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

Twinkle Baby Card by Jennifer Larson
Supplies - Cardstock, stamps, ink, paper distresser: Stampin' Up!; Die cut: Sizzix/Stampin' Up!; Patterned paper: Doodlebug, Crate Paper, The Girls' Paperie; Ribbon: My Mind's Eye; Border Punch: EK Success; Other: Machine stitching, button

1. I wanted to make a baby card, and the stamp I had mentioned stars, so I changed the shape from a heart to a star. I also reduced the number of shapes since the star shape I used was so detailed.

2. I punched scallops to the center line to add some baby softness to the card; for the same reason I added ribbon and distressed the edges of the stamped star and the center block.

3. I set the sentiment tag off the page with dimensional adhesive to make it stand out more.

Thank You card by Christy Arthur
Products - Cardstock: Bazzill (Kraft); Cosmo Cricket Circa 1934: Gable, Bette, Garbo and Ginger; Alphabet stickers: October Afternoon, (cream and red Mini Market Stickers); Ribbon: Fancy Pants; Punch: Martha Stewart (Classic Butterfly Punch); Tool: Tim Holtz Tiny Attacher and Making Memories Slice Basics I Cartridge (circles behind title text); Pen: American Crafts; Ink: Colorbox

• I chose to eliminate the large squares completely. I made the two paper strips larger to fill the space and simplify the design.

• I chose not to round any corners on this particular card.

• I added a ribbon along the bottom of the patterned paper strips.

• I used my butterfly punch to create the layered embellishment.

• I drew a border around the edge of the card.

• I used a mist lid to trace a dark outline around the background circles behind the "thank you" text. This way the dark outline would be a consistent size for all of the letters.

I'm trying to get as many posts scheduled to post tonight due to an incoming "historical" ice and snow storm that is about to hit our area. We are currently under a blizzard warning (there have only be two of those in our area in the last 100 or so years.) and they have said that losing power is going to be likely. Blogger allows me to schedule when a post is posted on the site so hopefully this won't be a problem. I'll do my best to make sure that we don't lose any days and everything will post as we have planned. If you are in the path of this storm too, be safe and stay warm!

I love all the cards especially the sunshine card. We are also getting hit with the storm, school just got canceled for today and most likely will again for tomorrow.
These are fun cards and I like the changes that were made.

Sending prayers of safety and warmth to everyone who will be in this storm. Hopefully warm weather will come soon after this.
