Two-Page Week, Part 5

Two-Page Sketch #17

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the two-page sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"Gotcha" by Christy Arthur
Products - Crate Paper: Emma's Shoppe trims and accent cuts, Portrait trims; October Afternoon: Thrift Shop Label and Shape Stickers, 5 & Dime Bubble gum, butterscotch, circus peanuts, lemon drops and shape stickers; Jenni Bowlin: chewing gum ink; Studio Calico: Mister Huey piglet and lemonade, bubble, herringbone and harpers ruler stamps, cooped up and yellow umbrella paper; My Mind's Eye: Stella and Rose Hattie Remember Stamp; Hero Arts: Typewriter Stamps; Elle's Studio: Journaling Tag; Hambly Studio: Washi tape; American Crafts: Precision Pen; Bazzill: Cardstock

I used the left side of the two page sketch to make the one page layout.

I moved the title to the left side of the layout and added a banner accent at the top of the layout.

I used three photos of the same size instead of the 4x6 and 4x4 photos shown in the sketch.

I made a banner where the star accent line is shown in the sketch and shortened the banner at the ribbon.

I added a few accents at the bottom of the layout.

I added a date tag below the photos.

"Race Day" by Suzanna Lee
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Teresa Collins, Echo Park, Sonburn Designs, 7 Gypsies; Letters: Making Memories, Cosmo Cricket; Chipboard: BoBunny; Stickers: Sass Lass, 7 Gypsies; Button: Purple Pumpkin; Punch: EK Success; Journal Spot: Basic Grey; Other: DMC Floss

For this layout I used only the left hand page of the sketch. I stayed true to the overall format with three pictures and the placement of them. Most of my variations were small.

I used some extra background layers. With all the paper we collect, might as well put it to good use, right? Instead of the stars, I used banners and they don't extend all the way across the page. My poor husband would have lost his head otherwise!

Because I only used the left side of the page, I had to put the journaling somewhere and hence the white strips below the banners. Or, what is supposed to be journaling. I wasn't at this event and am
waiting for my husband to do his part of our memory keeping.

There are a few extra embellishment spots just to spice things up a bit!

"Jackson's First Cake" by Allison Davis
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: My Mind's Eye; Alphabets: Making Memories (Jackson's), American Crafts: (1st, cake); Number stickers: My Little Shoebox, Making Memories, American Crafts, BasicGrey, Reminisce; Scallop border punch: Fiskars; Die cut: My Mind's Eye

One of my favorite things about sketches is how great they can be for a starting point. My layout still has the overall look of the sketch yet, there are a lot of changes I made to create this layout.

Variation #1 - On the right page I used three 4 x 6 photos instead of the three 4 x 4 photos on the sketch. The three photos I wanted to use couldn't be cropped down without cutting someone out of the picture. There is plenty of room on this sketch to use larger photos in that area and you can do so without having to adjust much.

Variation #2 - Instead of the large star I created a large cake to somewhat replicate Jackson's first birthday cake. I kept the design of it simple and constructed it with three different sizes of rectangles with scallop strips across the top of each one.

On the top of the cake I drew swirls and then hand stitched them and to finish the cake design I added a "1" sticker.

Variation #3 - The stars certainly would have worked with these pictures since Jackson's cake is covered in them but I couldn't resist adding a banner instead.

I cut the banner from a piece of patterned paper. On the patterned paper the banner was almost straight across the page and I needed it to have more curves for my layout. To get the curves I cut the banner into smaller pieces and then tilted them to get the curve I needed. I added hand stitching across the top to help cover any obvious spots where I had cut the banner.

I added several different styles and sizes of ones on the banner since it was Jackson's first birthday.

Variation #4 - Because of the pictures, the cake, and the banner I decided to go without the papers on the left page. There is already so much going on that I wanted to keep the rest of the layout somewhat simple. I thought it helped to keep the pictures front and center and also helped the banner and cake to stand out too.

Variation #5 - I moved the journaling to the left page so I wouldn't cover up the cake or the banner.

These are fun layouts today ladies. I like it as a one pager too.

On the first layout, great layering and clustering. The banner is so cute.

The second layout, what a fun theme and the colors and title are great. I like that your husband will do the writing part. Love the banner colors.

Allison, your cake is amazing and colorful. Sweet photos of baby Jackson too. I love the banner and different sizes you made it. The stitching is good too.

My daughter turns 13 next week and I've been thinking about banner ideas and wanted to include the number 13 in it and this gave me a great idea for it, hope I can make mine this cute, thanks for the idea Allison.

I'm sad to see this week end, it was such a fun one.
