Card Week, Part 3

Card Sketch #10

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the card sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"You Make Me Smile" card by Katrina Hunt
Supplies - Patterned Paper: Pebbles (Happy Go Lucky collection); Cardstock: American Crafts; Adhesive: Scotch ATG, Scrapbook Adhesives and Fabri-Tac; Felt Butterfly: Pebbles; Twine: The Twinery Baker’s Twine; Tools: Cricut Expression, Gypsy and Elegant Edges cardridge

I used the sketch as a jumping off point. I don’t really ever use a lot of circles (weird, right?!), but I love layers so I started with that idea. I pulled out my Cricut Expression and decided on a shape that I wanted to use. I had thought I was going to do different shapes for each layer, but decided to stick with one and just make them gradually smaller.

• Tip - If you have a Gypsy, you can add layers to your project and it helps you figure out how much smaller you need to make the next size layer

I then thought the sentiment needed something so I used the frame option on the cartridge that I was using to create a frame for it. Then popped up the framed layer for some dimension. Also, to give my sentiment some jazz, I distressed the edges, wrinkled it and then adhered it with a wrinkle in it which you can see in the picture.

I distressed every layer by roughing up the edges and wadding up the paper. I added the butterfly and trail at the last minute.

Variation 1 - Fun squares instead of circles.

Variation 2 - I added more layers than on the sketch.

Variation 3 - No cupcake, replaced with a simple sentiment.

Variation 4 - Added extra elements to the card.

"Wish Big" card by Carolyn Wolff
Supply ListCardstock: DCWV (Assorted Box of Cards);
Patterned Papers: Fancy Pants, Kaisercraft, 3 Bugs in a Rug; Ribbon: Making Memories
; Gemstones: Heidi Swap; Ink: Ranger Distress Ink (Vintage Photo, Memento); Pop Dots: EK Success; Stamp: Stamping Bella; Square Punch: EK Success; Pen: Signo Uni-ball

It has been a while since I made a card and my best friend’s birthday has come and gone so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make her a card.

Variation #1 – Instead of making a square card, I decided to make a standard A2 size card. I used a pre-made card base that was folded and ready for me to create with.

Variation #2 – I used a square background for my card element instead of the circle shown on the sketch. I created many layers of pattern papers, finishing with the white square on the top that I raised up using foam adhesive.

Variation #3 – I stayed with the cupcake theme, but I used a stamp to create my image.

I stamped the image 3 times. First on the striped paper for the cupcake liner, second for the cupcake top and third for the heart. I also stamped the image on the white square for the base of my image.

I hand cut the different pieces out and layered them on top of the stamped image on the white square. I added some clear gemstones and some hand drawn black pen to outline the white square.

Variation #4 – I tied a bow out of ribbon and added it to the lower left corner of my pattern papers.

Instead of putting the sentiment with my cupcake I put it at the bottom of the card.

I used my ruler and black pen and added a border around the base of the card to frame my image.

"You Make Me Oh So Very Happy" card by Melissa Bell
Supply List - Patterned Paper: K&Company, Pink Paislee, Making Memories, DCWV, BoBunny, My Mind's Eye; Ink: ColorBox Chalk Ink, StazOn; Pearls: Queen & Co.; Stamp: Studio G; Pop Dots: EK Success; Other: White Cardstock

I believe that this is the first time I have used one of Allison's card sketches. I just don't make cards that often. I would much rather put the time into a layout. This card sketch is a fun one! I stuck with the size of the card (6"x6") and stayed with the circle theme but pretty much went my own way beyond that.

This card is an easy one to put together and I used mostly scraps from my stash. For the sun rays I cut strips of patterned paper and folded them in half. I used four different designs of patterned paper and two different sized strips.

For the center of the sun I layed three different sized cirlces using pop dots to add dimension.
