Card Week, Part 5

Card Sketch #11

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the card sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"Pretend" by Janette Kincaid
Supply list - Patterned Paper: Sarah Milne for Scenic Route (North Shore Sunset); Cardstock: Bazzill; Accessory Sheet: My Mind’s Eye (Ooh La La- For Him); Corrugated Kraft Alphas: Jillibean Soup; Adhesive: Helmar Scrapdots and 450 Quick Dry; Journal Pen/Marker: Zig Black; Distress Ink: Pine Needles; Floss: DMC; Misc: dressmaker’s tape measure, unknown

Variation 1: I used the card sketch as inspiration for a one page layout, increasing the stripe through the middle and also the strips at the top and the bottom.

Variation 2: I replaced the three hearts with three similar photos

Variation 3: I created a large embellishment cluster at the bottom left side and a smaller one at the top right.

I left the title in the same general area as proposed in the sketch. I love the bits and pieces included in the Accessory Sheet, it makes layering elements so easy. I trimmed super thin strips of paper and rolled up one end to tuck under the raised star. The dots for the ‘j’ and ‘i’ in the corrugated alpha sheet make perfect circles to add more detail.

"Life Note" by Lynette Jacobs
Supply list - Cardstock: Bazzill; Printed Papers: Echo Park (For the Record); Flowers: Prima;  Chipboard Hearts: Maya Road; Pearls: Upikit; Rub on: Kaiser Scrapbook; Glitter: Pink Paislee (pixie stix); Punches: Martha Stewart and EK Success; Thread: DMC

•  I loved doing this layout.

•  I used a 5x7 photo that was framed with black Bazzill that was punched on the edges.

•  The three squares measure 2-3/4 and stitched around the edges.

•  I painted the heart chipboard black and then sprinkled black glitter on it.

•  I added the border sticker below the photo and added the pearls.

"Best Buddies" by Carolyn Wolff
Supply List - Cardstock: Bazzill;
Patterned Papers: My Mind's Eye (Lost & Found 2), Bo Bunny (Et Cetera); Rubons: Kaisercraft, My Mind's Eye;
Brads: unknown; Ink: Ranger Distress Ink (Vintage Photo, Memento); Border: My Mind's Eye Cardstock Frame; Stamp: My Favourite Things; Ticket: Tim Holtz; Pen: Ultra Fine Sharpie

I chose to do a layout using this month’s card sketch.

Variation #1 – I didn’t make a card, I created a single page layout. I felt the focal point on this sketch was the three squares with the hearts on them. I created my layout using three photos running through the center to follow the sketch.

Variation #2 – I flipped my ‘message’ to the top of my page instead of having it along the bottom as shown in the sketch.

Variation #3 – Instead of having the striped strip behind the squares, I dropped it down and replaced it with a decorative border strip. I used a cardstock frame and cut it apart to make the border.

"Spring Break '11" by Suzanna Lee
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: Lily Bee, Making Memories, My Minds Eye, Graphic 45; Chipboard: Lily Bee, Creative Imagination, Creek Bank Creations; Alpha Stickers and Stickers: Lily Bee; Wood Veneer: Studio Calico; Flowers: Bazzill, Making Memories, Websters; Misc: Tags, Sakura Pen

The biggest and most obvious variation is that I used the card sketch as inspiration for a one page layout. Those of you who follow this blog regularly know that cards aren't my thing. And, inevitably, I make single page layouts with the card sketch! It suits me better! I used the three squares and the layers of the card for the embellishment strip under a 5x7 picture. And rather than having three identical items, went for variety. Still flowers but all a bit different.
