"Be Thankful" by Janice Daquila-Pardo
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper; Patterned papers: We R Memory Keepers; Stamps: Hero Arts, Inkadinkado; Inks: Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Versamark Watermark Ink, ColorBox Fluid Chalk
Ink; Embossing powder: Zing! by American Crafts; Flower: Prima Marketing; Tools: Silhouette Cutting Machine, Scor-Pal; Pens: Copic

When I first pick up a sketch, I like to flip it in all directions to see how it best inspires me. With this card’s sketch, I “saw” my design when I flipped it vertically with the strips pointing up. It made me think of a turkey’s tail feathers, so I went with it!

Rather than making this a 5.25 x 4" card that opens from the bottom, I made mine 6 x 6" to open from the right. I went with the larger size because I decided to use this as a Thanksgiving Day booklet. When our guests arrive that day, this booklet will be sitting on the table to act as both a menu and a guest book. We will pass it around and ask each person to sign it, and if they are so inclined, to add a note about what makes them thankful.

I created the base of the turkey with a rosette, and then paper pieced the upper body to match. The notched strips from the sketch make up the tail feathers. And my little turkey wears the flower embellishment!

Of course, I couldn’t put the sentiment where it is on the sketch, so I created a banner to hang above the turkey. I cut the pieces on my Silhouette, used distress ink and a background stamp to give it some character and embossed the message.

This is soooo cute, love the colors too. Great idea, we do thankful leaves all November and this would be a great addition for when guests pop over.
