Add-on Week, Part 3

••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
You can easily make this umbrella a colorful and dimensional embellishment by adding some additional layers to it without adding a lot of extra time. Today we've got three projects that all enhanced the add-on sketch with some extra pieces.

Add-on Sketch #4

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the add-on sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"Just Ducky" by Suzanna Lee
Supplies - Cardstock: Coredinations, WInWorld; Patterned paper: Best Creations, Bella Blvd, Quick Quotes, BoBunny, SEI; Buttons: Stickopotamus, My Mind's Eye; Journal Spot: Jillibean Soup; Letter Stickers: October Afternoon, American Crafts; Ink: Tsukineko, Ranger; Punch: Fiskars; Pen: Sakura (Glaze); Misc: DMC Floss, Bazzill stitching template

Variations:

• I turned it upside down to make it look like an umbrella floating on the bath water

• I pop dotted and inked the edges of the the orange "segments" of the umbrella

Here's a closer look at some of the details:

"Umbrella" card by Katrina Hunt
Supplies - Cardstock: Recollections; Patterned Paper: Little Yellow Bicycle (Elizabeth Park Collection); Stamps: Unity Stamps Kit of the Month(Just You March 2011/Picture Perfect Nov 2010); Wooden Butterfly: Studio Calico; Ink: Memento; Pen: Zig Micron in Black; Adhesive: Scotch ATG and Scrapbook Adhesives by 3L

I had the grand idea to try to make a shaped card out of the umbrella, but I wasn’t thinking clearly at the time, so I just decided to put it on the front of the card!

I used my Cricut Expression and found an umbrella shape, but you could find one in a coloring book also to use as a template.

I cut the umbrella out a few times and then pieced the “topper” together from different papers. When I attached the top layer, I pop dotted it and then moved it slightly up so that you could see the bottom layer a little more.

"Rain, Rain go away!" by Allison Davis
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: BasicGrey; Alphabets: American Crafts (rain, rain), BasicGrey (go away!), and My Little Shoebox (Drew wants to play!); Birds: Maya Road; Brad: Doodlebug; Memory Thread: DMC

For my umbrella I really wanted to add some extra layers. I cut three pieces for the body of the umbrella, one out of the light green paper, one out of the red, and one out of the stripe. I used the green for the top and cut the stripe pieces to add on top of it. After I stitched the lines along the edges of the striped pieces I added the brad to the top and adhered the whole piece onto the red with foam adhesive, with the red peeking out of the bottom.

To make the handle of the umbrella I used two pieces of Memory Thread twisted together and then used a chipboard "J" for the bottom.

I agree the stitching on each one is fun. In the first layout the colors and theme and umbrella are so bright and colorful and fun, love it.
The second one, the quote is beautiful, haven't heard that before, great job on the umbrella too. Allison, your layout fits what we are all singing right now, the snow finally left a month ago now all we get is RAIN RAIN when will it ever stop. I love your rain stitching and the umbrella. Adorable layout. Great job ladies.

Great use of the add- on umbrella. The stitching is beautiful. I don't have a sewing machine but just got the WRMK tool and hope to put it to use with some of this inspiration. Thanks!
