One-Page Week, Part 5 - Another Unibind book and Giveaway

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
I always love seeing sketches used for projects other than a scrapbook page. It's amazing just how many uses you can get out of a sketch and what it can be used with. Today we've got two beautiful home decor creations from Tammy and Christina that are such fun uses of the sketch. (Just wait until you see Tammy's awesome attention to detail in her unique use of the sketch and Christina's pretty handmade flowers!)

Plus, I'm sharing another PhotoBook Creator book that I made, this time using the one-page sketch for this month and we've got another great giveaway!

One-page Sketch #5

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the one-page sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"Alive" Quilted Art by Tammy Tutterow
Supplies - Fabric: Printed cotton and muslin: Joann's Fabrics; Claudine Hellmuth Sticky Back Canvas; Ribbon: BasicGrey; Lace: Vintage; mists: Adirondack Color Wash (Lettuce and Meadow) and Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (Yellow Daisy, Blue Skies, and Vanilla Breeze); stamps: Tim Holtz (Slight Alterations and Fabulous Flourishes) and Hero Arts (Printer's Type Upper and Lowercase and Playful Letters); stencil: The Crafter's Workshop Birds of a Feather stencil; markers: Letraset Promarker (Primrose, Powder Blue, and Burnt Siena); stains: Tim Holtz Distress Stains (Wild Honey, Broken China, Faded Jeans); ink: Tim Holtz Distress Ink (Black Soot and Vintage Photo); flowers, stars, and leaves: Prima Homespun Bittles, Galaxy Stars, and Calcutta Leaves; misc: Tim Holtz Grungepaper

One day last week I came upon a photo by a photographer who's business name is Fully Alive. I was really taken with the name and thought to myself that it would be a great motivational motto. I decided to create a decorative piece to remind me of the idea. I used fabric to create a quilted art quilt that includes stamping and stenciling and a small bluebird nestled in flowers.

I varied my creation from the sketch in that I omitted photos and switched the journaling block to the right.

Here's a closer look at the details:

"So Happy To Have You" by Christina Hoffman
Supplies - Canvas: unknown; Patterned paper: My Mind's Eye; Spray stain: Design Master Home Decor Stain in Pecan; Title: My Mind's Eye; Flowers: Created with My Mind's Eye tulle, lace, and ribbon; Brads: Making Memories; Embroidery floss: DMC; Tools: Martha Stewart Butterfly Punch and Fiskar's Scallop Punch.

Variation #1: I used a 12 x 12 piece of artist canvas. I also sprayed it to give it color instead of using a colored piece of cardstock.

Variation #2: I flipped the sketch to accommodate my pictures.

Variation #3: I also shifted my pictures to the left because I did not want to cover up all of the scalloped border. I also liked the look of the pictures hanging over the side a little.

Variation #4: I only used one strip and a scalloped border.

Variation #5: I moved my title to the top of the page since it was so small.

Variation #6: I opted not to add any journaling.

My Unibind PhotoBook Creator book using One-page Sketch #5

The book I'm sharing today is one of the reasons why I wanted to get a PhotoBook Creator. I love cookbooks and have always wanted a way to make some for myself and as gifts for my family. The PhotoBook Creator is so great for creating hard cover, durable cookbooks that are sure to last a long time.

I used the white 8 x 8 cover to make a book of cupcake recipes. I have a ton of cupcake books and this was a great way for me to have all of my favorites in one place. Plus it has my alterations to some of the ingredients in the book instead of me trying to remember what I added or took out.

Lately I've been on a cupcake baking kick and have been enjoying playing around with different recipes and flavors. It worked out perfectly that the scrapbooker in me always takes a picture of each of the different flavors when I make them.

I used the one-page sketch from this week to make the inside pages that have the pictures and recipes.

I did make a few changes to the sketch to fit what I was working with.

Variation #1 - I had to downsize the measurements of the sketch to fit the smaller 8 x 8 size. Since it was still the same proportions it was easy and I mostly eye-balled everything.

Variation #2 - I flipped the sketch. I wanted the edge of the recipe to be aligned with the edge of the picture. Usually I don't mind having my text aligned on the right but with a recipe I thought it might be a little confusing and easy to lose your place in the recipe. I moved the picture to the left so I could have my text aligned on the left edge.

Variation #3 - I centered the background pieces instead of having them on the left edge. This is so I wasn't cutting anything off the edge that would be in the spine of the book.

Variation #4 - I used the title and journaling area for the recipe and then moved the name of the cupcake to the top.

Variation #5 - I only used one of the embellishment areas on the sketch. I wanted to keep everything super simple on the pages so one was enough. If you look closely you'll see that it's the cupcake add-on sketch that I used in the small gray circle.

I used the Unibind double sided glossy photo paper for this book so I have recipes printed on both sides of the page. I know with cookbooks, it's frustrating to have one that doesn't lay open very well. With the double sided photo paper the pages aren't bulky and it lays open so I don't have to worry about losing my page in the book. And the best part is that I can keep adding to the book since all I have to do if I want to add more pages is reheat and insert the new pages!

I would love to create a book using my grandparents old love letters and give it to my mom and her sisters as a gift on my grandparents anniversary. Since both of my grandparents have past and I was lucky enough to recieve all of their original love letters, I think it would be nice to share all the wonderful sentiments with the rest of my family.

I think that if I had a Unibind Photo Creator, I would make a book of my grandmother's recipes with photos over the years of us at different family functions with those recipes and give it to my father for Father's Day or his birthday.

I think Allison you should sell your cupcake book, like your sketch books! I would totally buy one. I always make a classroom yearbook for my students. These would look so professional.

Ive got a couple of ideas - a photobook for my 18month old daughter because she loves looking at photos, or finally put all my Nanas photographs that I scanned into a book for her :)

I love the quilted art and the canvas hanging, stunning. Your cupcakes look YUMMY! I love that you put them all together in one book. If I was to win this amazing Photobook Creator I would hop to make Mothers Day gifts for the Grandmas and Great Grandma. They would love that, then maybe a book about what I love right now, then maybe bind my book of me. Hm the possibilities are endless!

I would start with an ABC book for my son and then a rainy day book like you created Allison. I love the idea if having a regular reminder of the goals you are working towards.

Wowzers! AWESOME projects from today! love them!

I would create a book soley to write letters to my daughter. I keep thinking of this project. I would love to write letters to her about life, growing up, learning, being/staying in love, staying close to the Lord, remian true to yourself, etc. Just in case I wouldn't be around someday. Yes, that is DEFINITELY what I would do. Then I would encourage other Moms to do the same!

I had never thought of making a cookbook, but that would definitely be on the list of books I would make!

I would also love to make a book of schoolwork for each of my kids. I keep a selection of homework, tests and art projects from each year and this would be a great way to keep them safe and viewable!

The book would be Fish Tales. It would include photos of my dad (83 yrs old). My dad took my brothers and me fishing as children and adults. He spent many weekends on the lake with my son as a child, teenager and now an adult.

I love your cupcake book.

I continue to love this website.

Today's projects rocked (but the cupcakes made me hungry. I agree with the other commenters that the possibilities are endless. I loved the idea about the love letters. I think a family tree with the history of each person that I've been able to trace would be fun for my mom and sisters too.

If I had the Unibind PhotoBook Creator, I would make a book to record all the cute sayings my little 2-year old boy comes up with... They are too precious and cute to not put them in something permanent! Have a great weekend everyone! :)

I liked your idea of making a book of childrens' school work, So I would do that. I would make one for every year my daughters are in school. I think it would be such a sweet keepsake. I also would love to make one of their artwork that they are constantly making for us, all the sweet family drawings and cards. Plus I hate to get rid of all their hard work and this way I could save some of it!

Love the sketch and your book! Fabulous.

I would make all sorts of books. One for each of my kids' birthdays and one for each of our vacations. I always take way too many photos of those occasions, so a book would be perfect!

Each year I use shutterfly or other services to make a gift book of our Christmas trip for my mom. It would be great to make this using my own system.

I would make an ABC picture book for my 2 year old grandson based on the things that he loves the most on the farm. Augers, cows, tractors, Annabelle (our german shepherd), bubbles (his Aunt Lish bot him some for Easter).
Then maybe I could restore my scrapbook, made by my mom, it is falling apart. She saved every card I ever received as a child and wrote down every gift. It's 54 years old and I want to save her handwriting. The negatives are under the photos.
Thanks for the opportunity.

Tammy that is beautiful!
I think the first project would be a book of artwork and saying about the teacher from each student in my daughter's class for an end of year gift ( i usually do a scrapbook) but this would be great. I would like to do something like you did with all the artwork I've saved over the years for my daughters. Then when we get back from vacation this year I would love to do books for each of my girls. This is a special trip we are taking this year. Man this would be fun to play with!

I agree with one of the previous comments that you could sell your cupcake cookbook. It looks delicious! Although the possibilities are endless, having 7 wonderful grandkids I would start by making a book for each one of them.

I have so many ideas for books! One of my daughters is active in many sports. I always struggle with a nice thank you gift for the coach at the end of the season. I think making a book of various pictures over the season would be a very memorable and touching gift. Plus I'd love to create cookbooks for my sister-in-laws with my mother-in-law's recipes. She was an AWESOME cook.

I once again loved all the ideas that came from all of you using the 1-page sketch. If I had a PhotoBook Creator, I could think of a number of things, but would probably pull together Christmas photos to see how the family changes each year, and then maybe do sports seasons books for my kids, and then vacation books and then ......

Patchi said...

I love your cupcake book! If I put together a recipe book it would be of my grandmother's holiday dishes. I would probably also assemble a book with my other grandmother's life story, that she wrote for me in a journal a few years ago. Such precious memories should last forever.

Love, love, love the projects today. If I had a Unibind, the first book I'd make is one of my recent trip to see my Grandparents.

I would love to make a book about turning 30. There are not many photos of me and I think it would mean a lot to my children.

yougotmel said...

I have two things I would love to use the unibind photobook creator to make. One is "storybooks" for my young nieces and nephews using pictures and stories from their lives. I made a chipboard album for my niece for Christmas like this but she has pulled the rings out of it because she packs it around and "reads" it so much. The other thing I would like to create is books for my two kids of their sister. I have finally scanned in all the negatives of pictures from when they were all growing up and would love to learn to digi scrap so I can use all those pictures to make gift albums for Joni and Jake for Jeana's 21st birthday in a few years...it will take me that long to work through all the pics and pull myself together to make it.

I would make a book of my husband's Air Force career. All the different jobs he's had, different places he/we have lived, awards and decorations, tdy's, deployments, remote assignment, letters, photos.
I've been wanting to do this for a while but hadn't quite figured out the format yet and I think that this would be a great way to do the book.

I am currently gathering pictures from our Family Reunions. We have a reunion every year and each year, a different family member hosts. We were first to host and our turn is coming around next year. For the family gift, I'm hoping to put together a book for everyone to enjoy how we have grown the past 12 years. :)
This is a great way to show off those pictures!
