"They Jump to Their Own Beat" by Carolyn Wolff
Supply List - Cardstock: Bazzill;
Pattern Papers: Jillibean Soup
; Sanding Tool: Basic Grey File Set; Ink: Ranger Distress Ink, Vintage Photo; Pop Dots: EK Success; Letters: American Crafts, Cosmo Cricket; Fabric: Adorn It; Clear Pebbles: Dollar Store; Brads: Making Memories; Border Punch: Fiskars; Die-Cuts & Stickers: Jillibean Soup; Stitching: Sewing Machine; Other: Gluber from Cosmo Cricket

I have seen a few of the creative team members use the card sketch to make a layout, so I thought I would give it a try. This was a first for me.

Variation #1 – I guess the biggest variation would be that I created a 2-page layout instead of a card. The border of squares along the bottom of my layout resembles the squares shown on the card sketch. I used yellow squares that measured 2 7/8 and then layered orange squares that measured 2 5/8 on top. I machine stitched each square using red thread.

I placed a striped strip on top of all the squares and then layered a scalloped border strip on top of the stripe. I added the flower brads to each of the scallops (they matched David’s shorts).

For the message part of the sketch, I created an element using the journaling spots and one of the tickets from the punch out sheet. I added the date using stickers.

I couldn’t resist cutting the little watermelons from one of the pattern papers and adding them to the border.

Variation #2 – The rest of the layout was created using one of Allison’s sketches from Volume #7. I mainly used it for photo placement and then added the embellishments to fill in the spaces.

The Sun: I used one of Cosmo Cricket’s new Glubers to create the center of the sun. I cut strips of fabric and twisted them around to cover the sticky surface. I cut triangles for the rays and added the pebbles for accent.

For my fist attempt at using a card sketch to create a layout, I feel pretty good about the end result. I am certain I will be doing this again.

"Grandma's Boy" by Allison Davis
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: American Crafts; Alphabets: American Crafts; Paper flowers: American Crafts; Vinyl flower: American Crafts; Felt flowers: Fancy Pants; Metal embellishments: American Crafts; Word sticker: 7Gypsies; Buttons, brads: unknown

Converting this card sketch into a two-page layout was so easy! I followed the overall design almost exactly with a few additions here and there like embellishments, the title and the journaling. The only big change I made was adjusting the papers to fit with the pictures I wanted to use and the bigger size of space I was working with.
