I have turned the card sketch into another double-page layout! I had so much fun with that challenge last month. I decided to do it again.

Variation #1 – The most obvious variation is the fact that I didn’t make a card. I did a two-page layout. I used the strips shown on the sketch to create the strips on my background. I switched things up a bit and used circles instead of stars. I added some hand stitching to highlight some areas and added rub-ons along the very bottom strips.

Variation #2 – I turned the message area of the card into my title. I mixed some small letter stickers with some chipboard Thickers. I love doing this. It creates another embellishment all on its own.

My Favourite Part –  the rub-on in the lower right corner of page two. I framed it with a brown marker and then added the rub-on branch and a popped up circle embellishment. I also took the brown marker and did a frame around the entire page.

"Always on the Run" by Allison Davis

I may not be much of a card maker but I love using card sketches for layouts. A lot of times card sketches have great paper design that can be easily incorporated into a layout. The rest is a matter of arranging your pictures (try using another sketch for photo placement) and adding in some embellishments, a place for the title, and a place for the journaling.

I followed the card sketch almost exactly with the exception of I moved the bottom line of stitching below the bottom strip. I didn't want to cover up the stars on the bottom and it already had a stitched design on it.

When I saw the card sketch featured this week I instantly knew I wanted to create a double page layout with a hidden mini album. I’ve created this type of layout before, it’s great for those pages where you want to add lots of full sized photos but keep the feel of the layout simple and uncluttered; Birthdays, Christmas and vacations, like ours to Acapulco shown here.

The left page of the layout is mounted on a 12x12 sheet of foam board. I cut a 6x6 square out of the bottom right corner of the page and backed the foam board with patterned paper, to create a pocket of sorts, to house the mini album.

 I trimmed 2 sheets of 12x12 cardstock in half and folded (then stacked) them in half to create the 6x6 multi-page album. It’s all held together with jute twine looped through holes at the left side of the album.

Once in a page protector I use an exacto knife and ruler to cut a slit in the plastic so I can take the mini album in and out of the page when stored in my albums. The page protector keeps the mini album in place.

After last week’s Stitching Feature I just had to add some hand stitching to my layout! I used a ruler with holes (as suggested in Allison’s instructions) and a piercing tool to poke through both the paper only page and the foam board page. The ruler made the task easy and quick as well as keeps the line of holes super straight. Thanks for the tip Allison!
