One-page Sketch #13

You can download and print this sketch by clicking on the one-page sketches link found under the "printable sketches" tab on the right sidebar.

"My Way" by Shari Thurman
Supply List - Patterned Paper, Die-cuts and Alphabet stickers: Doodlebug Designs; Ink: Colorbox Chalk Ink (chestnut roan); Adhesive: 3D Foam by Thermoweb and ATG by Scotch; Cardstock: unknown; Brads: unknown; Black pen: unknown; Other: machine stitching

I love all the layering of papers in this week's sketch. I adjusted a couple of the measurements of the strips of paper in order to work with my specific papers and I adjusted the layout of my photos. I used a 4x5" photo in the portrait orientation rather that the landscape orientation as suggested in the sketch. I also used larger 4x4" supporting photos.

I used a couple of die-cuts in the location of the journaling on the sketch and then placed my journaling strips to the left overlapping the photos.

For the most part, the embellishments are in the same location as the sketch, but I omitted the flags. I added 3D foam adhesive to the die-cut shapes and also added red, yellow and green brads to mimic the stop light. I created a frame around the layout with machine stitching, that creates a tighter focus on the photos. I also added decorative random stitching to the pattern papers.

Journaling reads, "I am always trying to figure out why you are upset. I've come to the conclusion that you always have a plan for how you want things to go and when they don't go your way, you cry. You are a sweet, determined little boy. You just need to learn some coping skills. You will go far."

"Wish for a Happy Day" by Amy Roller
Supplies - Patterned paper: Crate Paper, Niki Sivils, Simple Stories, Amy Tangerine by American Crafts; Word stickers: Authentique; chipboard: Fancy Pants; jewels and markers: Stampin Up!; Other: toothpicks

I changed this one up a little by tweaking my pictures sizes and placement. They keep the overall feel of the sketch. I used two different papers for the base, and then placed my pictures. I added the cloud sticker "Joy" and then stitched in both corners.

I added a journal box cut from another pattern paper and used word stickers to form my journaling. I faux stitched around this and added a few heart and flower stickers here and there.

For the flags, I used toothpicks I cut down and more word stickers. The largest title peice is from another patterned paper which I also added a toothpick to. To finish it off I inked a chipboard word and added a little bling!

These pictures are actually from his brother Caden's Birthday party, but he got a gift to open as well. It was a laptop toy he had gone crazy over in Kmart one day. When he saw what it was an remembered it as he unwrapped it he was so excited! He let out the cutest squeal and couldn't get it out and on his lap quick enough. He sang and played all afternoon and it never left his side.

"Sweet Cheeks" by Megan Bickers
Supplies - Patterned Paper: Die Cuts With a View (The Green Stack); Stamps: Technique Tuesday (Savannah- Lower Case Alphas); Inkpad: Tsukineko (Versamark-Clear); Stickers: American Crafts (Thickers - Sweet), 7 Gypsies (Mini Label Stickers - Naked Color); Pens: Zig Writer (Black); Embossing powder: Close to My Heart (white); Heat gun: Close to My Heart; Buttons: Autumn Leaves; Flowers: Prima; Corner Chomper: We R Memory Keepers; Paper piercer: Making Memories; Clear gemstones: The Paper Studio; Marker: Sharpie (yellow, red); Other: yellow, white crochet thread

Variation #1:

For my title, I used a mix of stamps and chipboard alphabet letters. The word "cheeks" was stamped in versamark ink, then heat embossed with white powder.

I eliminated the banners/flags that were shown in the sketch and added my title in the space around my photos.

Variation #2:

I used two 4x6 photos and one wallet size photo (2 x 3"). So instead of just one larger horizontal photo, I used two vertical larger photos and one smaller photo in place of the 3x3 square photo.

Variation #3:

I varied the sizes of my pattern paper strips to work around my photo placement. The paper I used for the base of the layout had a white scroll border, so I used that to my advantage and accented it with gemstones colored with sharpie markers.

My accents were cut from one larger pattern paper. I trimmed the clouds out and placed them as shown on the sketch.

For my journaling spot, I cut the little animal out in a rectangle from the bottom of the pattern paper, then I trimmed around the flower at the top with my scissors to create the accent.

I used my corner rounder to soften the edges of my photos and papers. To pull in the colors at the top of the layout, I added some yellow stitching and a red sticker with the date.
