"Meet the Creative Team" Blog Hop - Penny Grimsley

•••••••••••••••••••••••••••
 One-page Sketch #20

"6,570 Days of Awesome" by Penny Grimsley
Supplies - Cardstock: Bazzill; Patterned paper: American Crafts, Simple Stories; Alphabets: Silhouette Die Cutting Machine; Embellishments: Simple Stories, Tim Holtz; Punches: Fiskars, Jenni Bowlin; Embroidery Thread: DMC; Fonts: Another Typewriter, Collegiate Heavy Outline

Variation #1 - I used a patterned paper background and added a cardstock mat to the page.

Variation #2 - I added a a cardstock mat to my center cluster of patterned papers.

Variation #3 - I rounded the borders of the patterned paper and then stitched along the edges for emphasis.

Variation #4 - I made a journaling card to hold the journaling. The journaling prompt "Cheddar Cheese and Chocolate Cake" is by Juliet Gainsborough.

Variation #5 - I moved the placement of the title and made the title much larger.

Variation #6 - I added a cardstock mat to my 4x6 photo.

Variation #7 - I made my stripe a little thicker for added emphasis against the patterned paper.

Here's a closer look at some of the details:

As you visit each blog today you'll see that we all answered a few questions so you can get to know us a little better. Here are mine:

How long have you been scrapbooking? 18 years officially - in this current fashion. I have a scrapbook I put together as a child - and I have over 60 completed albums in the house.

Why did you start scrapbooking? My oldest son was 4 months old, I was a new stay-at-home mom, I had tons of photos, and I was invited to a Creative Memories class. I knew right away this was right up my alley. It was a natural extension of my love of photography, journalism and yearbook from junior high, high school and college.

What is your favorite time of day to scrapbook? Any time! With the boys being 16 and 18, and being a "retail widow", I have lots of free time. I am an early bird - and do my best work in the mornings and afternoons. But, you could find me piddling in my scraproom almost any time.

How often do you scrapbook? Oops - did I just answer that above?! =) I finish pages every week - and I am playing with paper and glue almost every day.

Where do you scrapbook/what does your space look like? I am blessed to be happily supported in my hobby by my hubby and my sons. The formal living room in our house was a home office" that slowly turned into much less office and much more scrappiness. White built-in cabinets, red walls and hardwood floors help me keep it from looking too much of a mess and two slipper chairs offer my visiting guys a place to land and watch/chat/talk about their days. Many nights, we all will be in here at some point or another. My room is truly my happy place!

When I'm not scrapbooking you can find me... at work. Sad, but true. I have college boys about to
show up, and I must pay for all my patterned paper. =) I am also active at church, am an avid reader and a recent convert to watching House. DH and I are on Season 4. No spoilers! I also love to sip coffee on my front porch and call my mom. We talk almost every day.

What is your favorite thing about using sketches? They free me up to think about the fun stuff! What paper, what embellishment, which photos? The design foundation is done for me - and I get to use it as a launch pad for some serious fun. And what is so amazing is that you can be inspired in a totally different way by using it again later with another story, different photos and other papers.

What is your favorite sketch from Sketch Support? I am a big fan of the double layout - that goes back to yearbook in school...and my favorite layouts are using the two page sketches. {Although I am coming to love the ease of a one pager!} Sketch #19 is one of my favorites. I just love those artisan papers with the fun bracket edges. A layout of it in my Two Peas Gallery that you can see by clicking here.

I've got a copy of Sketches for Scrapbooking: One-page Sketches, Vol. 2 to give away today! Leave a comment on this post and I'll randomly pick a winner to post on Sketch Support on Monday.

To continue the hop, head on over to Andrea Friebus's blog!

I love that your "guys" come in and visit..my dad does that while mom and I scrap at her house : ) And my boys(5&7) love to scrap with us!
